What to Expect

My Style: My style is very natural and casual, not traditional or formal, so expect your shoot to be fun and relaxed.

Child shoots: I don't always expect children to sit and smile for pictures; I prefer them to play and be themselves. My favorite shots of children are usually those that happen spontaneously. The more comfortable a child is, the more likely he or she is to be natural. So feel free to bring along a few favorite toys, stuffed animals, yummy treats to snack on, or anything else that makes your child's heart content. This will make for great photos.

Maternity Shoots: Try to schedule your maternity shoot in your 6th or 7th month of pregnancy. By that time, you will have a beautiful belly to show off and will still feel comfortable showing it. The maternity session can take place at any location, and daddies are always welcome.

Newborn Shoots: The sweetest of all shoots! This session will take place at your home and will not have a time limit; we'll work around the baby's needs as they arise. The ideal time for a newborn shoot is 5-7 days after birth, while the baby still sleeps a lot and retains the new and curled up newborn qualities that make for some seriously sweet photos. Contact me early in your pregnancy to schedule your shoot so I can reserve some time near your due date.

Location and Timing: I will shoot wherever you choose - the beach, a local park, your community, or your backyard. I use natural light without flash, so sessions will typically take place outside (except for newborn shoots). For the softest, most flattering light and temperature, I prefer to shoot early in the morning or early in the evening.

Wardrobe: I get a lot of questions about wardrobe. My initial answer on this is always, be yourself! Wear clothes that you feel comfortable in. Try to avoid anything with busy patterns and logos, and when dressing for a family shoot, think coordinating, not necessarily matching. I will happily discuss wardrobe options with you via email or phone prior to your shoot, and even help you brainstorm and shop online if you'd like.
